I like The The Channel History

My dad is retired and a gadget freak. Recently he had to make a fiscally responsible decision to give up his Blackberry so I bought him one of these as a Father’s Day gift. He loves his but because I had some extra money I thought I’d get one too. This review is being written from the perspective of a simpleton who is not techno saavy at all. I barely knew what this thing was but I got one anyway. I’d been thinking about getting a laptop so I could get online while I’m on the road traveling. From what little I knew about this product I thought it would suit nicely. It’s lightweight and would be adequate for what I planned to use it for.

I have to say that I’m very happy with it but there are a few caveats. The first thing that struck me was the charger that came with it. It’s not a charger that plugs into the wall, it plugs into a port in the back of your computer. I happen to have a good computer at home but my dad did not. He had to go out and buy all kinds of stuff just to plug it in to be charged. Then you have to download iTunes on your computer and if your computer is old or just the bare minimum needed to search the net and read mail you’ll have issues there. My dad had to upgrade his home system just to be able to use the iTouch. The point was for him to save money and though he was happy to do all this, I felt poorly that my gift caused him to dig into his reserves. Techno slow polks like me need to know this stuff before they buy.

It comes with minimal instructions on how to use it or how it works and what instructions I did find were vague. Somehow you’re supposed to just know. I managed but through the whole process I felt very uncertain. As an mp3 player I LOVE it. I’ve never had or used mp3s and in that aspect I am so happy with this. Be prepared to be marginalized by eggheads and apple heads who will boast about how you paid too much, should get your mp3s for free elsewhere, shoulda got an iPhone or a Droid instead, etc. This mig
